Here is how I figure stuff

  •  A trip starts when you leave home and ends when you return home.
  • You may have several loads during a trip.
  • Your last load of the trip should always pass through your hometown.
  • I get 10 mpg loaded and 20 mpg empty, so my trip mileage is 15 mpg
  • Since I am 50% loaded and 50% empty and only get paid when loaded, I cut my mileage rate in half for calculations.
  • If my fuel surcharge is $1.00/mile loaded, thats $.50/mile actual trip miles.
  • When I drive 15 miles, I am paid $7.50 and use 1 gallon of fuel so at $5.00/gallon, I make $2.50 every 15 miles.
  • If I average 60 mph I earn $10.00/hour.
  • When I drive for 10 hours in a day, I earn $100.00 each day of my trip.
  • If my loaded pay goes up $.04/mile, thats $.02/mile trip earnings (see above)
  • 15 mpg X $.02/mile = $.30/gallon for 4 cents per loaded mile increase in pay
  • One cent per mile increase equates to 7.5 cents per gallon of fuel used on a trip.
